I really liked the premise of this story, it was kind of a twist having an Indian woman running away from a marriage rather than a white woman running away from a marriage. Unfortunately there was not one likable character in this book and they all came off as incredibly childish. The main romance seemed to occur simply because there were two people available and considering the trauma she had endured they fell into bed far too quickly. However the sister was the worst, she was supposed to be older but her behaviour seemed more suited to a 13 year old and until the end she seemed to have no comprehension of how irrationally she was behaving.Product details

I am a huge fan of Mrs Nordin's books and this story was no different.
Excellent story.
I thought this was well written but I found myself having to skip over a few "scenes". It was NOT a clean read...unfortunately I found that out after I had already purchased it. I was disappointed in that and wish I knew of any clean reads by this same author.
I don't want to share too much, so as not to spoil the story for potential reader's, but this story made me angry, sad, was so romantic. At one point I actually cried, wondering what the author was thinking. The plot twist, I didn't see coming, and I'd have liked to strangle the author when it resolved itself... the measure of a great story, to become so emotionally invested in the characters. I read this book in less than twelve hours, something I never do!
I would certainly recommend this title. I was impressed with the details and the characters. I love native american stories and their rich history, though I don't find too many that I'm truly entertained by. This reminded me a bit of a movie I watched as a teenager that for the life of me I can't remember. It was a christmas story. I'm not even accusing of plagerism, this was not a copy of that, it just rememinded me of those tender moments. It was well written, entertaining, and had me on the edge of my seet at times. I'd definetly recommend this title and will buy more work from this author. It looks like I have a lot to choose from.
This first book was a very, very, very good read for me and I look forward to reading the other books in this series. I want to see what becomes of our hero and heroine. I love historical romance novels. I love the feel I get reading about true and abiding love between two people who are determined to make it work and build something that lasts. It is a thing that you just don't see enough of in these modern times, is it?
This is my first book by Ruth Ann Nordin and it won't be my last. This book was just what I was looking for. A historical romance novel, with romance and Native Americans. Woape is running away from a cruel Sioux Indian who captured her and mistreated her. She is rescued by a white man, Gary Milton, who was able to chase the warrior off with his gun. She misunderstands his intentions when he goes shopping with her. Little did she know that misunderstandings soon become real intentions. Through their struggles, Woape and Gary, find the courage and love to be together. I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading Brave Beginnings and see the story unfold for Chogan and Julia.
Gary comes across three Indians trying to kill a young Indian girl, he saves her life and she follows him home. When he reaches home to his aunt Erin who raised him along with his sister Julia his aunt welcomes the young girl in her home. She follows Gary where ever he goes. She has slept beside him for a few days on the trail so in her culture she feels she is married to him. Julia hates her because her brother spends so much time with her and she feels left out. He tries to teach her English and finds her name is Woape. This is an interesting story, with a lot of adventure.
