I'd really like to give this four and a half stars. It is less formulaic than some of Gregson's other books, while still maintaining complexity and intrigue. Someone is killing women in and near Brunton, nice, middle-class, respectable women, and he's leaving not a trace of evidence. A psychologist called in for consultation suggests it is a methodical, careful, single man with, perhaps, a history of violence against women but violence without sexual innuendo. As another and another woman is strangled, police are still no closer. The psychologist suggests that the killer may be a professional man a doctor, lawyer, or possibly a policeman.
The Percy Peach novels are an excellent series.
